The Must Knows of Cruising

Got a question? We have the answers. If you are a veteran cruiser you may have all of the important information you need to set your sights on your next voyage, but if you are not a veteran or just need to make sure certain requirements and regulations have not changed since your last outing, this page is for you.

  • Will I get seasick?
In this modern age of cruising seasickness is not prevalent. Although some people are a little sensitive to lateral and buoyant movement, most people can consult their physician for their suggestions on preventative medication. Today’s modern ship has deploy-able stabilizers similar to wings on aircraft to further steady the ship in choppy waters. Also at the disposal of the bridge is a cluster of technologies that can navigate to less turbulent seas, aiding to the comfort level of sailing.
  • Will I need a passport?
The Departments of Homeland Security and of State issued the final rule-making concerning the requirements of passports for land and sea border crossings under the Western Hemisphere Travel Initiative. After years of development following 9/11, this ruling is the end of the process and can be considered FINAL when helping clients ensure they have the proper identification when traveling.
Effective June 1, 2009, the following rules take effect for cruise passengers:
U.S. citizens on cruise voyages that begin and end at the same U.S. port (closed-loop itineraries) must show proof of citizenship* and government-issued photo ID (such as a driver's license). A passport will not be required for passengers that fall into this category.
*Documents include: Original or certified copy of birth certificate; Naturalization papers; Consular Report of Birth Abroad issued by Department of State
All other passengers and/or itineraries (such as cruises which begin in one U.S. port and return to a different U.S. port or any cruise that begins or ends in a foreign port) will require a passport or other recognized document. For a list of accepted documents, see travel.state.gov.
  • What is included in the price of my cruise?
Your cruise price includes your accommodations,a steady flow of great entertainment, all of your meals for the entire duration of your cruise, and amenities of a floating hotel or resort!

  • Who do I tip and how much?
Usually tips are not rendered the to waiter-waitress or other servers during your cruise. Normally, you will find envelopes placed in your stateroom on the last day of your cruise. Extra envelopes and explanations tipping traditions and allowances are located at the purser’s desk. CruiseYou cruise agents can make suggestions on tipping guidelines. Just ask! Some cruise lines have a no-tipping policy. This means that the servers are being compensated in their pay for service and you are not expected to tip. However, if you feel compelled to exceed tradtional tipping trends, most service personel are very grateful for the extra compensation.
